Dear friends,
Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways?
Why do we play in recitals and recite in plays?
Why do we put suits in a garment bag and garments in
a suitcase? Why do we wash bath towels? Aren't we clean when we use them?
Why is a person who plays the piano called a pianist,
but a person who drives a race car not called a racist? Why is it called a "building" when it is already built?
Why is it called a bust, when it stops right before
the part it is named after? Why is it called a TV "set" when you only get one?
Why is it called 'after dark', when it is really after light?
Why is it, whether you sit up or sit down, the result is the same?
Why is the alphabet in that order?

Dear friends,
This poem is written in Malay language about a happy 'little girl' (gadis kecil) that I used to be - walking barefoot - picking flowers, chasing grasshoppers, running through puddles and stand upon a hill waiting the wind touching her face.
Such are a happy life I had as a little girl in my village .... and such are the feelings that I am having lately.
I would like to thank all of you my friends and a special someone for helping me re-discover that little girl.
.
gadis kecil itu
dengan kaki telanjang
memungut kembang
di ujung padang
.
gadis kecil itu
dengan kaki telanjang
berlari riang
mengejar belalang
.
gadis kecil itu
dengan kaki telanjang
mencari lopak
setelah hujan teduh
.
gadis kecil itu
dengan kaki telanjang
berlari ke bukit
menanti dengan tangan terbuka
angin senja menyapa wajah
.
~ Herb, 'terima kasih', thank you for coming into my life ~
