Jasmine is from Persian 'Yasmin' which means 'Gift from God'. I am sharing that gift with you today, to start off your Monday.
Jasmine is known in India as the "Queen of the Night" because of it's intoxicating perfume that is released at night. In China, Jasmine is used a symbol of feminine sweetness and beauty. Jasmine also symbolize deep affection, happiness and elegance. This is why it is used in wedding toss. In my culture (Malay culture), those days jasmine are used on the women sanggol (or a coiffure) not just to beautify but also to perfume their hair.
A lot has been said about this little white beauty and I like what Thomas More wrote:
Plants that wake when others sleep. Timid jasmine buds that keep their fragrance to themselves all day, but when the sunlight dies away let the delicious secret out to every breeze that roams about.
Happy Monday friends!
Have a productive week ahead!
-- Love, Larra --
Note: Those are pictures of Jasmine which I planted in a pot in the laundry room. Strange though, it never stop blooming since I planted it in January ... and my laundry room smells heaven at night :)
I hope your week goes really well too, Larra ... I love the smell of flowers.
ReplyDeleteVery sweet. Just like you!
ReplyDeleteI do too. But strange though I can hardly find nice smell roses anymore. Most of the roses here only look pretty in shape/petals but no scent. Sigh. When I was small mother used to plant roses , which didnt look very pretty but has lovely scent.
ReplyDeleteVery kind of you Tom. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love Jasmine above all others. Old rose cultivars seem to have more scent then so many of the newer varieties.
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of your laundry room! You send me Jasmine thoughts, I'll send you poppies. :)
