To love at all is to be vulnerable.
Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken.
If you want to make sure of keeping it intact,
you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal.
Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements;
lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness.
But in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless--it will change.
It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.
-- C.S. Lewis (British Scholar and Novelist)
Sounds like me
ReplyDeleteit's never too late ....
ReplyDeleteMy heart was broken a long time ago and that will never happen again, I will keep it protected, so nobody can have a chance to do it again. I'm not looking for love, I can be a good friend because that doesn't require me to use the part of my heart that was broken. The broken part will never heal. Feel free to psychoanalyze me if you like.
ReplyDeleteIt's been said, "It's better to have loved than lost, than never to have loved at all." I agree! I would much rather know the pain from a love lost, than the pain of loniness and being alone with no one. The singer Garth Brooks..."How could I have known you'd ever say goodbye
ReplyDeleteAnd now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
