June 25, 2007: Today's Children?

Hi everyone,

How's your weekend?

It was just another Sunday yesterday - did my laundry, worked at my balcony garden, cleaned the house ( I hate dust!); except that I went for monthly (sometimes once every 2 months) henna treatment for my hair. I started with henna treatment since early this year when I sort of 'decided' that I am going to keep my hair long. In our society we believe that henna is good for the hair - besides stimulates hair growth, it will leaves the hair softer, shinier and easier to manage. I also love the cooling effects of henna - I just don't like the fragrant so much! It won't change the color of the hair, except for the grey hair of course . So besides a healthier hair, I also get to colored my grey hair! Psssst, if you ask Herb, he will say that he didn't see any grey hair on me! You're very kind Darling!

Oops, I better stop ramblings about henna before I influenced you guys to go for henna treatment. What I would like to share with you is something that I witnessed at the salon yesterday. While my hair is being steamed (for 1 hour after the henna is applied) , a lady and her 2 daughters entered the salon - the daughters are about 8 yrs and 13 years old. Nothing special about them actually, except that the way the elder girl wanted her hair to look like Victoria Beckham (VB)! The mother also emphasized that her daughter wanted the VB hair style! The hairdresser, a Malay lady (I have been her regular customer for almost 3 years now) being in her late 40s doesn't know how Victoria Beckham hairstyle looks like! She even asked who is VB? While the mother was flipping through the magazines at the salon - looking for VB picture I suppose, the hairdresser asked the girl why didn't she brings the picture along. NOW, the way she replied is something that stucked in my mind! With her upleasant (I won't say rude) and loud voice she said: "I don't have time to look for one"!

To my surprise the mother didn't say anything! If she's my daughter, I'll surely slap her on her face - or at least teach her a lesson, by asking her to apologise! I remember how my late mother brought us up - we were not allowed to raise our voice to the elders, not just to mum and dad, BUT any elder persons! That's it! But I suppose, time has changed, the value has also changed. Sigh.

Anyway, the hair finally got cut - after lots of explanations, questions and answers taking place. So, my henna treatment yesterday was quite entertaining. For those who are curious about VB hairstyle - this is how the hair finally looked like! (sort of...) . Maybe I can consider this for my new hairstyle - is it OK Hon?
